Dania Di Gilio is a PhD candidate in Historical Linguistics, Educational Linguistics, and Italian Studies (Curriculum 1: Linguistics and Teaching of Italian as a Second Language) with a research project titled “The I level of adult education in Italian public schools (CPIA) and the didactics of Italian as a second language”. The project aims to investigate both how the transversal nature of the Italian language and the methodologies for teaching Italian to foreigners are taken into account in the disciplinary teaching of Level I (corresponding to lower secondary school and the first two years of upper secondary school) in Provincial Centers for Adult Education (CPIA), and how the Educational Institution supports its teachers in developing teaching competencies suitable for intervening effectively in the training process of the target audience (supervisor Prof. D. Troncarelli – Università per Stranieri di Siena, co-supervisor Prof. Giulia I. Grosso – Università di Cagliari).
She graduated with honours in Foreign Languages and Literatures, specializing in Germanic studies, from the Università di Napoli "L'Orientale". She obtained the Ditals II certification and a specialization in Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language with honours from the Università per Stranieri di Siena. Since 2017, she has been a tenured professor for the subject area A023 – Italian Language for Foreign Language Learners – at the CPIA of Salerno, where she has taught A1 and A2 level courses and supported teachers in the humanities and scientific subjects with a role in managing the microlanguages of curricular subjects. She was a member of the commission responsible for managing the Italian language proficiency test for applicants for the EU long-term residence permit. She is also an administrator and evaluator for the CILS certification exams.
Her research interests mainly focus on the teaching of Italian as a second language to adult students with a migratory background and the characteristics of various micro-languages.
I have PhD in Social Sciences (Educology). I defended my doctoral dissertation in 2007 in Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania.
From 2006 - till 2013 I worked as a lecturer and Head for Studies at Kaunas University of Applied Sciences in Lithuania.
From 2014 - till 2022 I worked as an associated professor at Marijampole University of Applied Sciences in Lithuania.
From 2022 till now I am an associated professor at St. Ignatius of Loyola College in Kaunas, Lithuania.
