THE EFFECT OF USING MODERN MATHEMATICS TEACHING STRATEGIES IN DEVELOPING MATHEMATICAL READING SKILLS FOR THE APPLIED MATHEMATICS COURSE AMONG ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN MUSCAT GOVERNORATE AND NORTH AL BATINAH
Abstract
The study aimed to reveal the effect of using modern teaching strategies in learning mathematics in developing mathematical reading skills for applied mathematics for eleventh grade students in Muscat Governorate and North Al Batinah. The researcher used the quasi-experimental method on a sample of (56) eleventh grade students, including (27) male and female students in the experimental group, and (29) male and female students in the control group. The study tools were built, including a test of mathematical reading skills (10 questions). The test was applied to the experimental and control groups, before and after. The observation card was also adopted to measure the extent of application of modern mathematics teaching strategies. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences between the two applications: the pre- and post-applications of mathematical reading skills, in favor of the post-application. The findings showed that there were no significant differences among the experimental group in the two applications: pre- and post-test due to the gender variable. The results of the study concluded that there was a strong and positive correlation between the results of the mathematical reading skills test and the extent of applying modern mathematical strategies in the classroom.
