THE EFFECT OF USING INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA ON IMPROVING THE READING ABILITY OF DYSLEXIC STUDENTS IN THE NORTH AL BATINAH GOVERNORATE SCHOOLS IN THE SULTANATE OF OMAN

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the impact of the use of interactive multimedia to enhance the reading ability the dyslexic students they have and to what extent there were pre and post statistical significance differences in the performance of the sample before and after the experiment. The study also aimed to identify whether there were statistical differences in the students, ability to read according to gender before and after the experiment. It also aimed to identify the elements and stages of designing and developing interactive multimedia lessons that help to improve the reading ability of dyslexic students in the second basic grade. To achieve this objective, the researcher used the descriptive, experimental and developmental curriculum. The tools used in this study were pretest and posttest and multimedia lessons to teach reading. The study tools were applied on the dyslexic students in the schools of North Al Batinah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman for (14) male and female students at the age of (8) years of the second basic grade. The researcher analyzed the sample results statistically before and after the experiment and according to gender. Means and standard deviations were calculated and compared using Paired Sample T-test. Statistical analys is revealed results explained in the light of the findings of the previous studies. A correlation of statistical significance was established between learning via multimedia and the improvement of reading with dyslexic students. Therefore, the researcher recommended to follow up results of the contemporary studies about the methods of teaching students with learning difficulties. He also recommended to provide technical and technological support to teachers of students with learning difficulties. The researcher also suggested conducting studies on all classes and extending geographically on a larger number of special education students, and increasing number of schools in the sultanate of Oman.
